Here are a sample of some of the trips our students will get to experience:
6 Nations -We will be visiting “Our Sustenance” greenhouse and community garden. Kitty Lickers will facilitate a workshop for the children about growing healthy food, making their own medicine and why these things are important to Indigenous people in 6 Nations. Children will have a chance to explore and make their own herbal tea.
Neshama Park – We will be learning about disabilities justice in the context of playground accessibility. After having built their own accessibility playground out of jynx wood, children will visit an accessible playground and explore elements they see such as: horizontal climbing ropes, ramps, accessible swings, braille signs etc. We will discuss accessibility as a crucial part of the BlackLivesMatter movement.
Black Farmers Network – Students will learn about the Black Farmer’s Network plot at Downsview park, and the significance of urban farming for Black communities in Toronto. They will have a chance to work on the farm.
